Hiring an employee costs significantly more than just the gross salary. Employer PRSI adds 8.8% to 11.15% on top of gross pay. Pension contributions, Benefits in Kind, and payroll administration costs further increase the total employer cost. The Employer Workspace makes the full cost visible from the start.
Under PAYE Modernisation (live since 2019), employers must submit a real-time payroll file (PSR) to Revenue on or before each pay date. There is no longer a monthly P30 — instead, the monthly payment is based on the accumulated payroll submissions.
Employer PRSI has two rates in 2026: 8.8% for employees earning up to €496/week (approximately €25,824/year), and 11.15% for employees earning above that threshold. Most full-time employees earning above minimum wage will attract the 11.15% employer PRSI rate. This rate is payable entirely by the employer — it does not come from the employee's pay.
Ireland's Automatic Enrolment (AE) pension scheme enrolls eligible employees automatically into a workplace pension from 2026. Eligible employees are those aged 23–60, earning more than €20,000, and not already in a workplace pension. Employer contribution starts at 1.5% of gross earnings in year 1, rising to 6% by year 10. Employees and the State also contribute. Employers must facilitate enrolment via the new AE central system.
